Wimbledon Review 1980

The 1980 Championships will be remembered for one of the
great sporting moments of the 20th Century, the fourth set
tie break of the Gentlemen's Singles final between the defending
champion Bjorn Borg of Sweden and John McEnroe of the USA.
However, this year was not only notable for its epic conclusion,
but also for controversial decisions, fearsome weather, the
introduction of electronic line equipment and Andrea Jeager,
a fifteen year-old American, who was the then-youngest ever
seeded player (a record that was to be broken 10 years later
by 14 year-old Jennifer Capriati).
The film follows the two weeks of Wimbledon which climaxed
by superb but differing finals: the grace and beauty of Evonne
Cawley's tiumph in the Ladies' singles and the breathtaking
victory of Bjorn Borg in his classic confrontation against
John McEnroe in probably the most enthralling, nail-biting
final ever seen on Centre Court.
