A dazzling final weekend dispelled the clouds and rain which had hung over much of the 2007 Championships. Roger Federer equalled Bjorn Borg's record of five consecutive men's singles titles while Venus Williams lifted her fourth trophy in eight years.

Jamie Murray became the first British player on the Wimbledon honour boards for 20 years when he won the mixed doubles with Serbia's Jelena Jankovic, but otherwise it was a barren year for the Brits.

Michael Llodra and Arnaud Clement became the first French pair to capture the men's doubles for 74 years. It capped a productive tournament for the French with Richard Gasquet reaching the single's semi-finals and Marion Bartoli the women's final.

The pairing of Cara Black and Liezel Huber reclaimed the women's doubles title they had won in 2005.

In the junior tournament, Donald Young, of the United States, won the boys' singles and Urszula Radwanska made it a family affair by winning the girls' singles like her sister Agnieszka in 2005.

But the real talking point for most of the tournament was the seemingly relentless rain. Attendance was down and it was feared the tournament would not finish on time.

Instead the rain cleared and, as if to make up for a miserable two weeks of weather, Federer and Rafael Nadal produced one of the greatest men's singles final under brilliant sunshine.
